The translation and compilation of a worldwide poetry yearbook that integrates the poems of outstanding Chinese and foreign poets is naturally the first choice for “ Sophy Chen World Poetry Translation Library (C-E Bilingual)” and it can quickly “Let Chinese Poets Go To World and Let World Poets Go Into China！” and directly promote the international exchange, translation research and development of Chinese and foreign poetry, so poet and translator SOPHY CHEN, Sophy International Translation Publishing House, Sophy International Publishing Media, Sophy Poetry & Translation (E-C) magazine, and Sophy Poetry & World Translation Website have decided to edit and publish one volume of Sophy Chen’s Translation World Poetry Yearbook every year from the year 2021. This book was translated by poet and translator SOPHY CHEN. In China, the paper book is published by Sophy International Translation Publishing House in Hong Kong; overseas, the paper and electronic versions are distributed on Amazon US English.
The translation and publication plan of “Sophy Chen’s Translation World Poetry Yearbook” is planned to be around 2014. After nearly 10 years of long preparation, finally on October 1, 2021, the call for its contributions was publicly released and put into practice. Since the global call for manuscripts on October 2021, after hard works of 7 months, we have received contributions from more than 30,000 poets of different languages and ethnic groups of 150 nations around the world, including China. After the editorial board members of the editorial committees of “Sophy Chen’s Translation World Poetry Yearbook” paid big efforts to read and select, we have just selected the English poetry works of a total 191 poets from 62 nations, from United Kingdom, United States, Russia, Canada, Philippines, Italy, Belarus, Australia, France, Germany, Greece, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Macedonia, Iraq, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa,etc. Chinese poetry by 500 poets, including Chinese poets, American, French, Canadian, Taiwan, Hong Kong Chinese poets, as well as poets of Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, Guangdong, Shaanxi, Zhejiang, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Anhui, Fujian, Sichuan, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Xinjiang, Qinghai and other provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. The book, “Sophy Chen’s Translation World Poetry Yearbook 2021” has been selected a total of 691 poems of 691 poets from 63 nations.
Most of the poems selected here are the inspirational works inspired by poets’ personal observation, life experience and insight into the world. They not only have a rich and diverse modern life flavor, but also have a profound humanistic care for human beings, nature, the world and the earth; it is precisely because of the personal participation and life observation of “self” that it has become a lively and excellent poem. Compared with Chinese poetry, foreign poetry focuses on self-comprehension more, because the integration of “self” into the poetic environment is more thorough and devoted, their poetry is relatively more casual and flexible, which has the considerable reference value for the Chinese poets. From this, it can be imagined that personal in-depth writing from the “self” is still the main trend of world poetry. Of course, image poetry still has its place in the world. Its refined philosophical thinking, crystal clear imagery and pure poetic language can also make us comprehend the elegant charm of modern poetry… It is undeniable that there are also a few poems here suspected of being rhetorical and vague for writing poetry or only for contributions. However, the poets are too active in their contributions, and this is the first time that this poetry yearbook has been selected, edited and published. As an editor, I really can’t bear to discourage the enthusiasm of the poets. After all, poetry is forever in the distance, and we are all on the road…
The compilation of this English-Chinese World Poetry Yearbook is inseparable from the active cooperation of translators from various nations and languages. Because I only accept foreign poetry manuscripts in English, without the full cooperation of translators in various languages, it is impossible to translate the languages of 62 nations into English and present them to everyone. Let us thank translators around the world for their hard works!
Sophy Chen, myself, as the editor-in-chief of this book, the translator from Chinese to English and English to Chinese, after I’ve assembled, translated and typeset the poetry manuscripts of these 691 poets, it is about to be sent to the printing house for printing, I don’t know what to say. To be honest, this book has exceeded my expectations far, especially the enthusiasm of the poets to contribute exceeded my expectations far. At the beginning, I imagined that there may be only one or two hundred poets selected and even thirty or fifty poets. Unexpectedly, overseas’ poets have given their full support and there are thousands of likes and comments under the call for contributions and domestic poets also responded enthusiastically and competed to contribute and there have been more than 30,000 poets from more than 150 countries. Therefore reading manuscripts has become a huge project, and selecting manuscripts is even more laborious. The information is huge, so it is an unprecedented test to reply to the poet’s inquiries (in many times, I can’t reply to the poet in time, please forgive me here). Now, apart from this book, there is nothing left to me to tell you! It seems that all the joy and sadness have been exhausted in the process of soliciting manuscripts, reading manuscripts, reviewing manuscripts, translation, and typesetting.
At the same time, the publication time of this book has also exceeded the original expectations. Since the call for contributions on October 2021, the original plan was to be published at the end of April 2022, together with the time of the call for contributions, translation, typesetting, and printing. Unexpectedly, the poets are highly motivated and the number of selected poets is huge, resulting in a sharp increase in the volume of translations and the most fatal thing is that the more active the poets are, the more I pursue the perfection of this book. In addition to the bilingual introduction in English and Chinese on the inside page, I also added a photo of the poet’s personal image (in the original plan I did not plan to put images of poets in the book), and I never thought that I would have a whim, to put nearly 700 people on a cover, and put everyone’s image on the cover, which is unimaginable for ordinary graphic designers. Its tediousness and difficulty of graphic design can be imagined. Most of the pictures of poets are unqualified in low pixels, so we have to spend a lot of time repeatedly collecting pictures of poets. Here I want to emphasize that as a writer and poet, it is very inappropriate to not have a decent image — every famous writer will have an image that readers will remember for a lifetime, right? !
In addition, some poets cannot restrain their enthusiasm for poetry and attention to the follow-up of submissions, constantly urging translation. I would like to say a few words here. Poetry translation is a secondary creation, which also needs time and requires a quiet and peaceful creative atmosphere. Network promotion also requires huge human efforts and material resources, and not just only release it on line. If you keep pushing, won’t it interfere with the translator’s normal translation and creation? (I warn poets who are used to urging translators today, if you keep doing this, don’t ask me, Sophy Chen to translate, and don’t be included in my edited books again.)

1.Works translated by Sophy Chen, whether it is English-Chinese translation or Chinese-English translation, the copyright of the translated text belongs to the translator Sophy Chen. Without the written permission of Sophy Chen, the translated text may not be altered, re-translated or translated into other languages.
2. The translation works whose original text (after removing the translator’s name) is in Chinese or English shall not be used as their own original English or Chinese poetry works for public dissemination on the Internet, publication in domestic and foreign publications, awards, etc. If the translated work does not include the translator’s name and what is original language before translation and what is language after the translation, or maliciously conceals the translator’s name, it will be treated as a copyright infringement of the translation, and will be publicly announced on the Internet and held for legal responsibility.

Why I just say it publicly, because some poets publicly and unscrupulously infringe the copyright of translators. As a translator, defending the copyright of translation is the primary task of maintaining the dignity of translation.
In good luck, thanks the goodness, the book has finally been done! In China, I have not verified whether this is the first bilingual World Poetry Yearbook in English and Chinese, but I think the World Poetry Yearbook of nearly 700 poets from 63 nations and at home and abroad can definitely be called the first one in China. The number of poets at home and abroad selected for this book is enough to demonstrate the value of this book. Let us speak with poetry and quietly feel the infinite charm of poetry!
The call for papers of “Sophy Chen’s Translation World Poetry Yearbook 2022” (C-E Bilingual) will be released soon. Please actively pay attention, create, respond, write and submit your poems! Volume 2022 follows the practice of volume 2021, new poetry 25 lines, haiku 3-9 lines, or Chinese ancient poetry 4-8 lines, brief poet bio within 50 words, 1 high-resolution image photo, and all of the above are indispensable. By the way, if there is no poet’s image photo or the image photo is unqualified, please take a good photo first, remember to take a portrait photo above your chest, and highlight the portrait of the poet yourself rather than the scene behind you. Pixels of photo must not be less than 3000 pixels.

《苏菲译·世界诗歌年鉴》翻译出版计划拟定于2014年左右，经过近10年漫长的酝酿，终于于2021年10月1日，在全球公开发布征稿启示，付诸实施。自从2021年10月全球征稿以来，经过7个月的努力，一共收到来自全球各语种、各民族，包括中国在内的150个国家的3万多诗人的来稿。经过《苏菲译·世界诗歌年鉴》各位编委不遗余力的阅读、精选，一共遴选出自英国、美国、俄罗斯、加拿大、菲律宾、意大利、白俄罗斯、澳大利亚、法国、德国、希腊、印度、尼泊尔、孟加拉国、马其顿、伊拉克、以色列、日本、韩国、越南、泰国、加纳、尼日利亚、南非等62国191位外国诗人的英语诗歌作品。汉语诗歌，包括中国、美籍、法籍、加拿大、台湾、香港的华语诗人，以及北京、上海、天津、重庆、广东、陕西、浙江、湖南、湖北、江西、安徽、福建、四川、黑龙江、吉林、新疆、青海等省市自治区共500位诗人的汉语诗歌作品。本书《苏菲译·世界诗歌年鉴2021卷》一共入选来自63个国家的691位诗人的691首诗。
这里面入选的绝大多数诗歌，是从个人的生活观察、人生体验和对世界洞察出发的灵感之作，既具有浓郁丰富多样的现代生活气息，也具有深厚的对人类，对自然，对地球与世界的人文关怀；其中正是因为有了“自我”的切身参与和生命观照，使之成为了鲜活灵动的优秀诗歌。相比于中国诗歌，国外的诗歌更侧重于自我体悟，因自我融入诗境更彻底更投入，因此他们的诗歌相对来说更随性也更灵动，这对国人具有相当的借鉴价值。由此可以想见，从“自我”出发的个人化深度写作仍然是世界诗歌的主潮。当然，意象诗歌还有它世界性的一席之地，它精炼的哲思、晶莹的意象和纯诗的语言，还能让我们领悟现代诗歌的典雅魅力……不可否认，这里也有少数诗歌是为写诗而写或为投稿而写的诗，有陈词滥调与空泛之嫌，然而诗人投稿实在太积极了，又是第一次编选出版这个选本，作为编选者着实不忍打击诗人们的积极性，毕竟诗歌永远在远方，我们都在路上……
这本英汉对照世界诗歌年鉴的编选出炉，离不开各个国家、各个语种翻译家的积极协作。因为我这里只接受英语文本的外国诗歌稿件，没有各个语种翻译家的通力合作，就无法将62个国家的语言翻译成英语呈现给大家。让我们感谢全球翻译家们的辛勤付出！
苏菲我本人作为本书的主编、汉译英和英译汉的译者，将这691位诗人的诗歌稿件组稿-翻译-排版完成，即将送印刷厂印制之际，却不知道该说些什么了。说真的，这本书远远超出我的预期，尤其是诗人投稿的积极性远远超出了我的预期，一开始想象有那么一两百位诗人入选就差不多了,甚至最坏就那么三五十诗人入选，没想到海外诗人鼎力支持，征稿帖下有数千点赞和数千留言，国内诗人也是踊跃响应竞相投稿，先后竟然有一百多个国家三万多诗人投稿。看稿子成了一件巨大的工程，选稿子就更加费神费力了，信息量巨大，回复诗人事无巨细的问询更是前所未有的考验（很多时候，不能及时回复诗人，在这里请大家谅解）。现在除了这本书，已经没有什么可以交待给大家了！似乎这一切的快乐与心酸都已经在征稿、阅稿、审稿、翻译、排版的过程中消耗殆尽了。
同时这本书出版时间也超过了原先的预期，自2021年10月征稿以来，原计划连同征稿、翻译、排版，印制，2022年4月底印制出版，没想到诗人积极性极高，投稿入选诗人数量巨大，导致翻译量剧增，最致命的是，诗人越积极，我也越追求这本书的完美性，除内页附上英汉双语简介之外，还增加了诗人个人形象照（原计划并没有打算在书里放照片的），不曾想接下来又突发奇想，将近乎700人放到一张封面里面，大家形象照都放入封面，这是一般平面设计师都无法想象的设计工程，平面设计的繁琐与艰难可想而知。大多数诗人形象照像素太低，不合格，所以又花了大量时间重复征集诗人形象照。在这里我想强调一点，作为一位作家、诗人，没有一张像样的形象照是非常不应该的——每个著名作家都会有一张读者一辈子记住的形象照，不是吗？！
还有，有些诗人无法抑制自己对诗歌的热情和对投稿后续的关注，不断的催逼翻译。我想在这里说几句，诗歌翻译是二次创作，同样需要时间，需要一个安静祥和的创作氛围。网络推广也要付出巨大的人力物力去做的，不是发出来就行的。如果你不断的催逼，不会干扰正常的翻译创作吗？（我今天正告那些习惯催促编译者的诗人，如果你一直这样，以后不要找苏菲我本人翻译，也别再入选我主编的书刊了。）
还有，我今天在这里公开申明下翻译版权：
1.苏菲翻译的作品，无论是英汉译还是汉译英，翻译文本版权归译者苏菲所有，未经苏菲书面许可，不得更改翻译文本、重译或将翻译文本转译成其它语言。
2.不得将原文为汉语或英语的翻译作品（去掉译者姓名后），作为自己的原创英语或汉语诗歌作品，公开在网络传播、国内外出版物刊印、评奖等。翻译作品如不随附译者姓名以及翻译前后语种，或恶意隐匿译者姓名，一律作侵犯翻译版权处理，网络公开通告并追究法律责任。
3.未经出版者、作者或译者的书面许可，不得复印、复制和传播翻译作品或翻译出版物。
为什么要公开说呢，因为有些诗人就公然肆无忌惮的侵犯翻译家版权。作为一位译者捍卫翻译版权是维护翻译尊严的首要任务。
好事多磨，谢天谢地，这本书总算竣工了！在中国，我没有考证过，这算不算是第一本英汉双语的世界诗歌年鉴，但我想，来自63个国家、近700位海内外诗人的世界诗歌年鉴，在中国绝对可以称得上是第一本吧。此书入选的国家和海内外诗人数量足以彰显这本书的价值所在。让我们用诗歌说话，静静地感受诗歌的无限魅力吧！

Sophy Chen, Lihua Chen, born in Lueyang, Hanzhong, Shannxi Province, China, is the Chinese contemporary poet, translator, publisher and world poetry manager. She graduated from English Institute of Xi'an International Studies University in English Literature. She is the founder of Sophy Chen World Poetry Awards, the President of Sophy International Translation Publishing House, Sophy Chen World Poetry Museum, the Chief Editor and Translator of Sophy Chen's Translation World Poetry Yearbook (C-E Bilingual), Sophy Poetry & Translation(C-E) World Poetry Paper Magazine, and Sophy Poetry & World Translation Websites. Sophy Chen is Admin Of PENTASI B World Friendship Poetry, a Member of the Translators Association of China, and a Member of the World Nations Writers Union, Kazakhstan. 苏菲（Sophy Chen），本名陈丽华，中国当代诗人、翻译家、出版人、世界诗歌活动策划人。生于陕西汉中略阳；毕业于西安外国语大学英文学院。“苏菲国际翻译出版社”社长、“苏菲世界诗歌奖”创始人、“苏菲世界诗歌博物馆”馆长、《苏菲译·世界诗歌年鉴》(汉英对照)主编、《苏菲诗歌&翻译》(英汉）纸质世界诗刊主编、“苏菲诗歌&世界翻译网”主编。PENTASI B 世界诗歌联谊会行政管理、中国翻译协会会员、卡萨克斯坦“世界各民族作家联盟”会员、意大利“聂鲁达文学协会”名誉会员、意大利“帕那苏斯诗歌奖”评审委员会成员、意大利“卢修斯·阿纳乌斯·塞内卡”艺术与哲学学院 驻华大使、意大利帕那苏斯诗歌奖驻华大使。1989年开始汉语诗歌写作、2004年开始英语诗歌写作、2005年开始英汉双语诗歌翻译。
