When the renowned Italian Poet Maria Miraglia gave me rights to translate her Poetry Collection Dancing Winds into Chinese and publish it in China, I felt the very complex emotions to be mixed in my mind. There was an indescribable sense of joy, but also a touch of nervousness. In my translation preface, I should talked about the poetry itself. However, both in my mind and in my eyes, the scene of our first meeting kept recurring...
That was the first time, I’d sponsored, hosted and presented the 2019 PENTASI B China World Poetry Festival & Sophy Chen World Poetry Awards and its Awards Ceremony. At that time, because the arrival times and dates of the poet guests from several countries were all different, our welcoming team held banners all day long, but only received DOC PENPEN (the founder of the PENTASI B World Poetry Friendship) from the Philippines, DOC Prasad (the founder of the Indian Writers’ Corner), and some Chinese poets. The welcoming tasks for the poet guests from Italy, Pakistan, Canada and Turkey had to be handed over to other members of the welcoming team, which are four graduate students majoring in English invited from Xian Foreign Studies University to handle the welcoming work.
The first day was the registration for the global poets. The poets who arrived first couldn’t contain their excitement were waiting in the waiting room at the entrance of the Xi’an Hotel. When the sun set and the lights had been turned on, suddenly we heard DOC PENPEN and DOC Prasad shouting: Maria! Before I could react, Maria had already come to my side. Before we could introduce ourselves to each other, she handed me a delicate transparent plastic bag, inside which was a delicate box wrapped in blue tin foil. As I just received the gift and hadn't had time to say “thank you!”, Maria took out a certificate, about A5 size. Naturally I looked at it and I saw that it was a light yellow color, the kind of color as beautiful and mysterious as the Italian castles. Looking closely, it was all in foreign languages, but there didn’t seem to be a single English word. I couldn’t help to have a bit of nervous. Do you understand? It’s impossible to be calm for someone who studies foreign languages and even is a translator, as seeing this scene completely bewildering, I even could not read a single word.
And then, when I was in a rush, I completely forgot about this! As the organizer and host of this poetry festival, at this critical moment to me there were countless details to review and remind everyone about. How could I have time to look up words in dictionary? At the beginning of the festival, the first event was an excellent Chinese and foreign poetry symposium in the morning. While I was hosting the poetry symposium, the World Poetry Book Exhibition, and the Donation Ceremony, Maria suddenly came onto the stage, holding me with one arm and taking out a huge certificate from her with other hand and presenting it to me. I suddenly realized that this certificate was exactly the same as the one she gave me yesterday, except that this one was much larger in size. Before Maria could speak, DOC PENPEN, sitting on the podium, shouted loudly, “Wow, Neruda!” At that moment, I couldn’t believe my ears and involuntarily stammered, “Oh my Goodness! Neruda! Neruda! It’s for me? Me? Oh my god!” Then the poets in the audience exclaimed, “Wow, the Neruda Poetry Awards. Sophy is so amazing!” While I was still in a daze, Maria suddenly made a speech. She said, “For a long time, we knew very little about Chinese culture. Before, maybe from Qian Zhongshu’s English articles, we knew a little. But in the past few decades, especially in the last 10 years, we have learned about China through a large number of Chinese poetry works translated by Sophy Chen. Sophy Chen has had a profound influence on Italian literature, and even European literature. Therefore, we are awarding the Neruda Poetry Awards to her to recognize her contributions to Italian literature and even European literature...” (Xi'an, Xi'an Hotel, November 23, 2019) . This sudden awards made my heart overturning as rivers and seas in storm, and it made my heart beating faster, and my mind going blank... When Maria finished her speech and I was still not sure where to start, to translate it for the poets present in the audience, fortunately, I had invited four English major graduate students from my alma mater Xi'an Foreign Studies University to do the interpretation to save the situation for me! To be honest, as a poet, when it talks to the poet Neruda, this one who won the Nobel Prize with his poetry and is renowned worldwide, that’s truly a household name and especially the Neruda Poetry Awards, I was truly stunned at that moment, my brain signals were interrupted involuntarily. Unless you are not a poet and don’t know the strength of the world poetry and literary circles, don’t know who is Neruda, and what does the Neruda Poetry Awards mean.

Today, as I hold the poetry collection “Dancing Winds” by the renowned Italian poet Maria Miraglia, until I will finally translate her English poetry collection into Chinese and will have it printed and published, it is true that “when one is thirsty, one can not forget the person who dug the well.” Besides expressing my admiration and enjoyment of Maria Miraglia’s poetry, I cannot help to remember the Neruda Poetry Awards, as well as the passionate and harmonious excitement during the 2019 PENTASI B China World Poetry Festival & Sophy Chen World Poetry Awards. I cannot help to remember the president of the Italian Neruda Literature Association, the renowned Italian poet Maria Miraglia, Saverio Sinopol, this poetry couple who have made significant contributions to the world poetry scene, across thousands of miles traveled from Italy to Xi’an, China, to leave their beautiful images to me, as well as the smile on Maria Miraglia’s face as she held Sophy Chen World Poetry Awards (Xi’an Hotel, Xi’an, December 23, 2019). What a beautiful smile it is and what a wonderful beginning of friendship it is! That is Sophy Chen and Maria Miraglia—it is also the beginning of the beautiful exchange between Chinese poets, Chinese poetry and Italian poets, and Italian poetry. If there is no 2019 PENTASI B China World Poetry Festival & 2019 Sophy Chen World Poetry Awards, there would be no Neruda Poetry Awards, and there is no opportunity to meet the renowned Italian poet Maria Miraglia, and also there is no chance to hold this precious Italian poetry collection “Dancing Winds” and even no chance to translate it into Chinese and have it published. The PENTASI B China World Poetry Festival & Sophy Chen World Poetry Awards, and the Neruda Poetry Awards have opened my journey of Italian poetry. This is a visible and established fact. In the following years, I was invited to Italy to receive the Italian AMBASSADOR TO CHINA by THE ACADEMIC SENATE, ACADEMY OF ARTS AND PHILOSOPHICAL SUAENCES of LUCIUS ANNAEUS SENECA(2023)(Hall of the Stables, Norman-Swabian Castle Sannicandro di Bari, Italy 2023-10-14), (Canicatti Theater, Sicily, Agrigento, Italy 2023-10-22) and The Highest Awards of the 6th“innANZItutto”. Along the way, there are moments of anxiety, but also moments of joy. Sophy Chen, I have discovered in this mysterious country of Italy it is not a problem at all to communicate in English with Italian local people, to have in-depth exchanges and cultural dialogues with Italian local poets and even international poets. Italy is like a familiar foreign land. Now, right now, from this moment on, I have abandoned all anxiety and have been taking big steps forward...

当意大利著名诗人玛丽亚·米娅歌莉娅将她的诗集《风之舞》授权我翻译成汉语在中国出版的时候，我心里五味杂陈，既有不可言喻的惊喜，也有些许的忐忑。翻译前言本该具体谈谈诗歌作品本身的，但现在不管是内心还是眼前，都不断浮现我们第一次见面的画卷……
那是我第一次赞助、主办、主持2019 PENTASI B 中国世界诗歌节&苏菲世界诗歌奖颁奖盛典。由于当时几个国家的诗人嘉宾飞机抵达中国咸阳国际机场的时间点和日期都是前后不一的，我们迎接团队打着横幅一整天，只接到来自菲律宾的DOC PENPEN（PENTASI B 世界诗歌联谊会创始人） 和来自印度的DOC Prasad（印度作家角创始人），和部分中国诗人。意大利、巴基斯坦、加拿大、土耳其诗人嘉宾的迎接任务不得不交给迎接团队其他成员，从西外请来的英语专业的4位研究生。
第一天是全球诗人嘉宾签到。先到的诗人们都按捺不住心中的喜悦，在西安宾馆门口候客厅里静候着。当夕阳落尽，华灯初上，突然听到DOC PENPEN和 DOC Prasad高喊：Maria！我还没有反应过来，Maria，已经来到我身边，还没等我们彼此自报姓名，她便递给我一个精致的透明塑料袋，里面一个精致的盒子用蓝色锡纸包裹着。我刚接过礼物，还没来得及说：“thank you ！”，Maria 便拿出一张证书，约莫A5大小。我顺势一看，米黄色，是那种和意大利城堡一样唯美而神秘的色调。我定睛一看，全是外语，但里面似乎没有一个英语单词，心里不由自主的泛起一丝紧张。你可明白，对于一个学外语的，又是翻译的人来说，眼前一片懵，一个单词不认识，不紧张一定是假的。
接下来，我一忙乱，就把这个忘到脑后了！作为此次诗歌节主办人、主持人的我，这个节骨眼上，诗歌节有无数个细节要盘点和叮嘱，哪里有时间查单词呢？诗歌节开场，第一场是早晨精彩的中外诗歌研讨会。正当我在主持诗歌研讨会/世界诗歌图书展和捐赠仪式的时候，Maria突然走上台来，一只胳膊抱着我，一只手拿出一张巨大的证书给我，我突然意识到这个证书和她昨天一见到我，就给我的证书一模一样，只是这个尺寸比昨天的大了很多。 还没等Maria开口说话，坐在主席台的DOC PENPEN 大声喊道：“WOW, NERUDA!”，我当时都不敢相信自己耳朵，便不由自主的语无伦次“天哪！NERUDA！聂鲁达！发给我？我？天哪！”，接着台下的诗人们惊呼“哇，聂鲁达诗歌奖。苏菲厉害呀！”我还在蒙圈的时候，Maria突然发表演说，她说道：“一直以来，我们对中国文化知之甚少，之前吧，从钱钟书的英语文章里知道一些吧，但最近几十年，特别是最近10年，我们从苏菲翻译的大量中国诗歌作品里了解到中国。苏菲对意大利文学，甚至是欧洲文学产生了深远的影响，因此我们将聂鲁达诗歌奖发给她，以表彰她对意大利文学乃至欧洲文学作出的贡献……”（中国西安， 西安宾馆2019-11-23）。这突如其来的大奖，让我心里翻江倒海，心跳加速，脑袋一片空白……当Maria发表完演说，我正不知从何处下手口译给下面在座的诗人们的时候，幸亏我提前请来母校西外的4位英语专业研究生口译救了场呀！说实在话，作为诗人，提到诗人聂鲁达，这位曾用诗歌获得诺贝尔文学奖，响誉世界的诗人，那可是如雷贯耳，更何况是聂鲁达诗歌奖，我当时的确被吓住了，大脑信号中断那是不由自主的，除非你不是诗人，不知道世界诗坛文坛的厉害，聂鲁达是哪个，聂鲁达诗歌奖意味着什么。
