According to the reports of Taiwan media Eastern News Agency, the poet Yu Guangzhong, died in Kaohsiung Hospital at the age of 90. At noon, the Kaohsiung Hospital said Yu’s family members requested confidentiality and did not disclose the disease, but the news was true. And Taiwan Sun Yat-sen University said Yu Guangzhong died at 10:10 this morning, and his family members didn’t want to be disturbed. At first he thought the weather is changing, and the temperature is low, so he went to hospital for a check and then decided to have a rest cure in hospital but he did not expect that he got some minor stroke, with his lung infected, and then he was transferred to the intensive care unit; His daughters who live abroad also rushed back from abroad, and they refused to be interviewed, As a results only one day, this Literary World “Bright Multicolored Pens” died, whose many works selected in textbooks, and his relatives and literary friends are very sad. 

Yu Guangzhong, praised by literary master Liang Shih-ch’iu as “the right hand writing poetry, left hand writing prose, and others without high achievement as him at the time,” has some achievements in literature such as modern poetry, modern prose, translation and commentary. Before graduation in English department in college, he submitted poems to literary journals for publishing and published his poetry collection entitled “Sad Songs of Zhouzi” after he was appreciated by Liang Shih-ch’iu. After graduation, he also co-founded the Blue Star Poetry Club, “Blue Star” magazine which has also become a very influential literary books, with young poets such as Qin Zihao, Zhong Dingwen and Deng Yu-ping.

Mr. Yu Guangzhong engaged in literary creation for more than half of century. Professor Chen Fangming, the professor at the Taiwan Chinese Language Research Center of National University of Governance, praised him as where he is where is the literary center. His well-known poems include Cars Passing by Fangliao, The Green Jade Cabbage, Homesickness, Which were composed into classic pop music by many musicians such as Yang Xian and Li Taixiang. Among them, his prose include My Four Imaginary Enemies, Listen to That Cold Rain, and his translation based on Van Gogh Biography is the most classic and best known.

Yu Guangzhong’s Bio

Yu Guangzhong (1928-2017), is the famous Taiwanese poet, essayist, critic and translator. The land of his ancestors, Yongchun, Fujian, he was born in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. He studied at the Foreign Language Department of Jinling University (later transferred to Xiamen University) and graduated from the Department of Foreign Languages of Taiwan University in 1952. 1959 he got his Master of Arts from the United States Iowa University (LOWA). He has taught at Soochow University, Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan University and Politics University. He is currently the president of Taiwan Sun Yat-sen University. He has won all important awards in Taiwan, including “Wu Sanlian Literature Award”, “China Times Award”, “Golden Tripod Prize” and “National Arts Prize.” He has published over 40 kinds of poetry and translation works.

文坛“璀璨五彩笔”余光中去世 享年90岁

       据台媒东森新闻报道,诗人余光中在高雄医院过世,享年90岁。高医中午表示,病人家属要求保密,不公开病情,但消息为真;而中山大学表示,今天(14日)早上10点04分过世,家属不愿被打扰。原先只以为是天气多变、气温偏低,到医院检查後决定住院静养,没想到疑似有些小中风,肺部感染、转进加护病房;旅居在外的女儿们也从国外赶回,谢绝采访,结果1天之隔,这位作品多选入课本、文坛的“璀璨五彩笔”就过世,亲人与文坛好友都十分伤痛。

      受到文坛大师梁实秋称赞“右手写诗、左手写散文,成就之高、一时无两”的余光中,在现代诗、现代散文、翻译、评论等文学领域都有涉猎,大学时期就读外文系的他,还没毕业就在文学刊物上投稿诗作,受到梁实秋赏识後出版诗集处女作《舟子的悲歌》;毕业後,更与覃子豪、锺鼎文、邓禹平等当时文坛上活跃的青年诗人们,共同创立蓝星诗社,《蓝星》周刊也成为文坛一本非常有影响力的着作。

       余光中先生从事文学创作超过半世纪,政大台文所教授陈芳明曾赞誉余光中在的地方就是文学中心,熟知的诗作有选录课本中的〈车过枋寮〉、〈翠玉白菜〉、〈乡愁〉等,还有杨弦、李泰祥等众多音乐家谱成歌曲,成为流行歌的经典;散文作品则有〈我的四个假想敌〉、〈听听那冷雨〉,翻译则以《梵谷传》最经典、最为人所知。

【余光中简介】

     余光中(1928-2017),台湾著名诗人、散文家、批评家、翻译家。祖籍福建永春,生于江苏南京,曾就读于金陵大学外语系(后转入厦门大学),1952年毕业于台湾大学外文系。1959年获美国爱荷华大学(LOWA)艺术硕士。先后任教台湾东吴大学、师范大学、台湾大学、政治大学,现任台湾中山大学文学院院长。曾获得包括《吴三连文学奖》、《中国时报奖》、《金鼎奖》、《国家文艺奖》等台湾所有重要奖项,已出版诗文及译著共40 余种。
